Learn The Basics of Building a Data Mart by Designing a SQL Performance Warehouse

For simple reporting needs, it’s ok to simply whip up the necessary SQL to provide the necessary data. But more complicated requirements require a different approach; building a data mart. In this session, I’ll demonstrate the techniques of using a data mart on something that is near and dear to all DBA’s – properly tracking the performance of the systems they are responsible for. We’ll start by designing a data model to answer important questions about SQL Performance, we’ll then load SQL Trace data into it and demonstrate how the data mart allows us to answer complicated questions in a much easier fashion. We’ll also use analysis services to demonstrate why a cube built on top of a data mart can answer questions that SQL itself finds difficult.
